Treatment for a Cracked or Broken Teeth

Fast treatment for a fractured tooth from experienced professionals.

Treatment for Cracked Teeth in White Plains and Mt. Kisco, NY

A cracked tooth can be accompanied by several noticeable symptoms, including tooth pain and aches when chewing, sensitive teeth, and the release of biting pressure. In some cases, the pain comes and goes while in others, the pain is more persistent. A fractured tooth can become more problematic when the pulp within the tooth becomes irritated and an infection of the pulp can end up spreading to the bone and gum tissue around the problem tooth. We encourage patients with a cracked tooth to come in immediately for an evaluation and treatment.

Types of Cracks in a Broken Tooth

Some types of cracks are more dangerous than others so it is important to see an endodontist right away. If you are experiencing any type of pain or discomfort from a cracked tooth, there is a risk of pulp infection which needs to be addressed immediately.

Craze Lines

Craze Lines

These are very tiny cracks on the tooth that only affect the outer enamel of the tooth structure. These types of cracks are common among adults and are only superficial — they do not necessarily require treatment.

Fractured Cusp

Fractured Cusp

If the cusp of the tooth becomes weak, it may result in a fractured tooth. The cusp can break off or be completely removed by a dentist. You may need a root canal if the fractured cusp damages the pulp and this treatment may include placement of a full crown.

Cracked Tooth

Cracked Tooth

A deeper crack that extends from the chewing surface of the tooth to the root of the tooth can cause significant damage and may damage the pulp. In this case, a root canal may be necessary or you risk losing the tooth entirely.

Split Tooth

Split Tooth

This occurs when there is an untreated cracked tooth. If you notice the tooth has separated into segments, we will need to work on repairing and restoring the tooth as quickly as possible.

Vertical Root Fracture

Learn More >>

Vertical Root Fracture

This occurs when the fracture occurs at the root and extends up to the surface of the tooth. Treatment may include endodontic surgery if some of the tooth can be saved. Otherwise, the tooth will need to be extracted completely.
