Microscopes and Imaging
Each of our eight treatment rooms is equipped with an operating microscope. The enhanced magnification and fiberoptic illumination provided by these microscopes are invaluable tools that assist us in performing the technical aspects of endodontic treatment. Several of our operating microscopes are also equipped with high-resolution video to help document cases for enhanced communication.
The latest addition to our family of operating microscopes is the OPMI PROergo from Carl Zeiss. Advanced Endodontics of Westchester is the first in NY State to acquire this highly sophisticated microscope which offers many new features:
Angled optics for viewing in any position
  • There are, of course, difficult-to-access areas which would make therapy almost impossible, were it not for the angled optics.
  • These optics allow you to view these difficult-to-access areas in a comfortable posture and to direct the light right to where you need it.
  • A rotatable tube dovetail allows ideal viewing when OPMI PROergo is tilted to one side or into extreme positions.
Feather light maneuverability – Free Float Magnetic System
  • Smoothly, exactly and without any effort: that's how you can position OPMI PROergo.
  • When the magnetic couplings – centerpieces of the Free Float Magnetic System – are released via the handgrip, OPMI PROergo "floats". Let go of the button and OPMI PROergo is reliably fixed in position again.
LCD-Display – Always in the picture
  • This is certainly user service at its best. You can read off and, of course, change the set parameters on the LCD display at any time.
  • Parameters for up to 3 different programs or for 3 different users can be set as required.
  • For example, a frequently used working distance or light intensity or the automatic speed adjustment can be selected and set in advance.
Varioskop for easy working distance adjustment
  • Comfort during treatment starts with your first look through the eyepieces: position OPMI PROergo in such a way that it is most convenient for you.
  • The Varioskop optics do the rest. Using the function keys on the handgrips you can exactly adjust the internal optics. No lens change, no compromise.
  • A different position? A different working distance? After repositioning OPMI PROergo, press the Varioskop button – and you have ergonomics in action.
Digital Radiography
X-ray procedures are an essential part of quality endodontic therapy. Our offices utilize an advanced non-film dental imaging system known as CDR developed by Schick Technologies, Inc. The already low radiation required for dental radiographs is further reduced by over 80% compared to conventional film. Using this system, an electronic sensor produces computerized radiographs which appear instantly on a chairside computer screen. These images can then be optimized, printed, archived indefinitely and sent to the referring dentist. This process is further facilitated by our Online Referral Collaborator option which can be accessed at the top of this page. As beta testers for Schick Technologies, we are happy to announce the introduction of CDR Wireless into our practice. The world's first wireless direct digital radiography system combines the added convenience of cable-free movement to the practice-building power of our Active Pixel Sensors.

Ultrasonics
Our operatories are equipped with sophisticated ultrasonic units which are used to remove posts and metal instruments, as well as aid in the search for calcified canals. These units are also used to prepare the root-end for a retrograde filling in cases when microsurgical intervention is indicated. The diamond coated microscopic tips vibrate up to 25,000 cycles per second to insure accurate and speedy preparation
Nickel-Titanium Instruments
The cleaning and shaping of the root canal is aided by the use of metal instruments made of a unique alloy of nickel-titanium. We use both hand and rotary instruments along with a liquid antimicrobial agent to help remove bacteria and tissue.
Materials:
Mineral Trioxide Aggregate
A hydrophilic ceramic material that is a relatively new advancement in endodontic treatment. Our doctors use MTA for pulp capping, resorption repairs, perforation repairs, root end filling during surgical treatment, and apical plug during apexification. Current literature supports its use as a biocompatible material with excellent resistance to leakage.
Resilon/Epiphany Obturating System
The Epiphany Soft Resin Endodontic Obturation System consists of Resilon®* points and pellets, a dual-cure resin sealer and a self-etching primer. Each system component is resin based resulting in a solid resin monoblock in the root that effectively seals to the dentinal walls.
